In this clip, TK Kirkland detailed going through the “Scared Straight” program way back in 1976. He said that was one of the scariest experiences of his life and largely kept him away from committing too serious of a crime that’ll land him in prison. He said that no matter how tough someone is they still have to face the horrid conditions of the prison which can break just about anyone.

didn’t Eddie Murphy make a movie named Life which was based on a real story of falsely accused and convicted black men?

It’s one thing of wannane gangsters and tough guys but don’t mistake how white police officers and departments have been doing that falsified report which… isn’t that a criminal activity? and those acts and suspects always seem to get away with robbing men’s freedom especially black and minorities… because even if there are stories of falsely convicted white men do you seriously believe that the same type harassment is done in those neighborhoods?

1:14 to 1:34 is honestly the worst part about being locked up. Especially the part about when they close the door

Also, isn’t it odd how the street culture is so homophobic but in prison homosexuality is rampant? Somebody lying

I remember years ago I worked at Edwin Gould Academy and I took a group of kids to the scared straight program. That was the first on only time I had been in a jail. Just going through them big ass doors of Rahway scared me and this wasn’t about me. You go through one set of doors then they close them then you wait trapped in between two of these gigantic doors. Now the next set opens and your in HELL really so I’m looking at these little ass cells and this big dude coming out of there and I’m like man no way. So from where we are standing we can see the yard and everybody out there. I always remember the guard telling the kids no you cannot go to the yard because if them guys get on you by the time we get over there you would be dead. Bottom like Rahway I think did more for me that day then it did them kids. This was 1995 and to this day based on what I saw for those couple of hours I never ever been in any kind of trouble. The kids that I took there I don’t know what happened to them I left the Academy and went to Germany for a bit. Hopefully some learned something from that trip that day.

They join gangs on the streets and they join the prison gangs in there to feels safe. I grew up in this environment and I went to juvenile hall onetime for a self defense and they didn’t care but that judge told me I can see on your face you ain’t coming back here and I shook my head hard and said hell no 13 years old kid and the judge told me he believed me gave probation and summer work program and I kept my word ain’t never been back and all the negative things in my neighborhood tried to get me but I wasn’t having it.
