I can’t stand classically Abby’s commentary, because she’s just as harshly judgemental as those people who call me a racist because I look white.

If she wasn’t ” pornographic she wouldn’t be famous” yeah guess who set that standard for women!? Yup the patriarchy. But now at least women are taking that and twisting around the patriarchy and celebrating and embracing their sexuality themselves and taking control over their bodies instead of being used either way

Women getting to make their own choices and living their lives as they see fit is empowerment. If you wanna twerk for the camera, go for it. If you don’t, don’t. It’s all about having choices.

Did… did she not actually read the lyrics? Because I did. To me, it seems like Megan Thee Stallion is saying that whatever you do, you have to be yourself and be strong and not listen to anyone who’s trying to cut you down. I’m an EMT, I work in a field that is mostly men. In order to do my job well, I can’t let that influence me. I have to do things my way and I have to show people that I can be the best no matter what gender I am. Abby should actually analyze something before dumping on it… Maybe take an English Lit class or two.

I’ve never even heard of classically blabby, in her video clip that you are showing she looks like she has a lot of hate in her. Like you said that style of music isn’t new and women dancing sexy in a video is far from pornographic. I think she has a personal problem and if she doesn’t like that style of music then what in the hell is she doing listening to it ? Anyways love your videos Peace and love to you and your family ????????????????????????????????

conservative men and women alike love to shit on female artists just bc they display more sexual liberation, meanwhile male artists keep on singing about murder/drugs/domestic violence/women being reduced to sexual objects/casual sex etc… but it’s the woman’s fault of course!

abby is clearly criticising promiscuity from these women and is saying basically being a hoe is not empowerment. As she also says for men to not be promiscuous so you’re argument that “duhhhh men did it first” is stupid

I have a lot of different feelings about people who think like abby. I’m angry they spread a toxic message but I’m sad that they feel too guilty to live their sexuality… It can a beautiful thing, even if you don’t do it with another individual, it’s personal. And wouldn’t a ”loving god”, if it existed, want the most pleasant life for you?

I kinda agree with her, though. Not on all the details, but I don’t think it’s exactly a good thing having damn near pornographic anything in the mainstream and then label it as ’empowerment.’ I don’t care if it’s Snoop or any female, I don’t care what genre of music it is.

Sexual liberation is one thing. I think of something like "Man I Feel Like a Woman." Just her talking about how she doesn’t need to act like a ‘lady.’ She’s gonna go out with the girls, drink it up, and have fun with the boys. It hints at a sexual undertone, but she’s not dry-humping the camera. She is coming at the message from a more playful stance, with upbeat fun and inspirational vibe. I’m not even a country fan, but I’ve always loved that song and found it to be the peek of feminism when it was still a good thing.

This garbage, though, appeals to just pure cave-man desires. Damn near fuc*in’ the camera. It’s kind of like when body-positive people complain that Victoria Secret models promote unattainable beauty standards, and that guys are gonna expect all women to be like that, and women will do dangerous things to attain that body.

There’s merit in that. Well wtf do you think is going to happen when this kind of crap is promoted, and then labeled as ’empowerment’ when it literally is showing unrealistic sexual standards? It’s smut. Just because the start of the video has a little happy message, doesn’t negate the rest of it. It’s probably more there so that any naysayer can be called a bigot.

Also: Here’s the best way to think about it. Would you want your 12 year old do these same moves, on camera, in a speedo? No? Then it’s probably too sexual for the mainstream to be called ’empowerment’ or ‘inspirational.’ Keep it, that’s fine. I don’t care that this exists, just don’t promote it and act like she’s anything but a thing for guys to jack it to. She’s not a role model.

Thank you for this video, it could be argued this is just a trivial matter, but that the point you brought up about the music industry ALWAYS having his type of content and how it is all of a sudden an issue because its women producing the content is so blaringly obvious. Ask yourself, what is the difference? There is none. Crabby Abby is just like her brother. Making molehills into mountains to pander to their ultra conservative audience. They know parents, even ones that mostly are indifferent to the topic, are more likely to watch this video and thus they include the point about ‘waa bad dont let your kids see". Its all just to justify their poor perspective on women, and more specifically, black women. There I said it.

To be clear: the central point here is that empowerment comes in different shapes. So what is empowerment for me, might not be for you. That doesn’t invalidate my empowerment or yours. That goes for whatever empowers Megan Thee Stallion and what empowers Classically Abby. It’s up to them respectively to decide that.

Megan is college educated and was smart enough to rap to pay for school and lifestyle. So in my opinion the girl should maybe check her bias and find some business so she can find something that empowers her that doesn’t include tearing down other women.

I’ve come to realize that if people (women) don’t like sexuality/ nudity as empowerment then talk about the covered women who are making boss moves you see as women empowerment. Why trash another woman for their version of women empowerment?? Like just talk about something else. Simple.

I agree with keeping that same energy for both female rappers and male rappers. I don’t watch Meg or artists like her and I don’t really listen to make rap either. At least make rap that speaks down on women or objectify women. Female rappers are getting the brunt of the complaints when they shouldn’t. Men created this industry and now women are working with what they have been given.

Who is her video for? I cannot imagine there are loads of women, in a quandary about twerking, waiting on her guidance. I recently found myself preparing dinner, and was overwhelmed by the desire to bounce my butt, but then her words echoed in my ears saying, "You’re a mum, a scientists and a wife… don’t throw it all away by twerking". By her definition, my nearly full-body tattoos and pink hair preclude my presentation of womanhood as well, despite me having an entire 24 year marriage and five children within it. Most certainly, I do not fit her aesthetic or presentation, yet I have happily expressed my body and style to my own desire since I have had the autonomy to make my own stylistic choices. That is by definition empowerment, the freedom of having multiple roads which lead to a productive and fulfilling life on your own terms, or conversely not being tied to one presentation in order to be considered a successful/upstanding person (woman specifically in this case). It does not matter if you arrive there dressed as an Amish woman or in a bikini, only that you arrive with peace over your journey to the destination. The fact that she can offer herself as a contrast to Megan as a symbol of empowerment intrinsically proves the point that empowerment involves a great deal of personal choice, and is subjective to what the person finds to be their best presentation. Sorry for typos, I am making cupcakes, and voice text is not the friend of Scots.

Of course, Abby has no clue what she’s talking about because Megan devolved her career on her rapping–the twerking is very new in the timeline of her career. She even has a line in a song: ‘I’m a rapper not no muthafukin model’
